Abstract

During the last eight years we have carried out a detailed study of the pharmacology and toxicology of gentamycin, produced in Bulgaria. It included investigations of the acute, subacute and chronic toxicity of the antibiotic; observations on the sex and species differences in its toxicology; comparison of its acute toxicity with those of the other aminoglycoside antibiotics (8, 9); study of its influence on the normal microbial flora of the macro-organism (6), of its relation to the mineral metabolism (5); elucidation of its action on the blood pressure (2), intestinal smooth musculature (2), myoneural synapses of the skeletal muscles (3), as well as its direct effect on the striated musculature and muscle fatigue (7) and many others.
