Superconducting Films of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O by Laser Deposition

Abstract

Superconducting Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (BSCCO) films have been grown on single crystal [100] MgO by laser deposition. The films are highly c-axis oriented perpendicular to the substrate. The 2212, 2223 and 2234 phases of the BSCCO system have been grown independently in film formed from a sintered 2223 BSCCO target. By post annealing at 8700C for five minutes, the critical temperature of as-grown predominantly single phased films was increased from below 77K with semiconductor behavior to above 80K with metallic behavior. Post-annealed BSCCO films were transformed from a single phase to a multiphase film. The current density of these films ranged from 103 to 104 amp/cm2 at 77K.
