Abstract

The treatment of neoplastic tissue using photodynamic therapy is currently undergoing a worldwide concerted research effort, enabling human treatment of such tissue using the drug hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD), see for example1. Current research is centered on the development of new photosensitizers, new instrumentation for delivering the required radiant energy, an understanding of processes involved in the selective biodistribution of photosensitizers as well as the mechanism by which the induced cytotoxic reaction is produced.
