Porous Tubulets for Desalination Barriers

  • Chapter
Reverse Osmosis Membrane Research

Abstract

One economic requirement of the reverse osmosis process is that the operating energy be conserved by providing a high ratio of membrane surface area to volume of reverse osmosis module. One approach to achieving this high ratio is to coat desalinating films or membranes onto fine porous tubulets, which can be closely packed in great numbers into modules, to give a high surface area-to-volume ratio.
