Abstract
Since meritorious research work is the prime consideration for election to the American Physiological Society, it is obvious that the two most important activities of the Society are the primary publication of the research contributions in physiology and the organization of meetings at which the results are presented and discussed. The early history of the publications is well described by Dr. Milton Lee in a letter to Dr. Louis N. Katz, President of the Society in 1958:
