Abstract
This Session launched the workshop on the Monday afternoon with two papers on techniques for implementing improved Persistent Object Stores. Eliot Moss presented his paper with Antony Hosking on “Expressing Object Residency Optimisations using Pointer Type Annotations” and Dave Munro presented his paper with Richard Connor, Ron Morrison, Stephan Scheuerl and Dave Stemple on “Concurrent Shadow Paging in the FLASK Architecture”. All the authors from both papers were present apart from Stephan Scheuerl, as the EC ESPRIT/ US NSF workshop had finished in the morning. It is amusing to note that both papers had at least one author from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
