1979: Presidential Address on Human Welfare

Abstract

Before preparing my remarks for today’s meeting, I reviewed the titles of all the Presidential Addresses delivered at Annual NABE Meetings. Almost without exception, they have dealt, quite appropriately, with the role of the business economist. Last year, in New Orleans, Frank Schott developed the rationale for a program of continuing education that would be designed to keep the business economist on top of the latest developments within the profession with the objective of strengthening individual effectiveness. The year before, Peter Max made common sense appeal to business economists to become more concerned with and involved in the allocation processes within their organizations. The broader role of the business economist in hel** to lift the level of economic literacy was set forth by Gil Heebner in his Presidential Address in 1976.
