Abstract
We present results from a subset of our survey of southern elliptical radio galaxies. Using VLA snapshot data and high sensitivity spectra from tile AAT Faint Object Red Spectrograph we find a strong correlation between the luminosity in the Hα+[NII] emission lines and the total radio power from the source, but a poor correlation between Hα+[NII] luminosity and core radio power. A possible interpretation of these data is discussed.
