Abstract

In this paper we present the results of the use of magnesium phosphorus molybdate (Mg(PO3)2–MoO3) additive to improve the tribotechnical characteristics of TsIATIM-201 and LZ-TsNII plastic railway greases. The studies were carried out using an FBM friction machine and SMT-1 modernized friction machine. The introduction of the Mg(PO3)2–MoO3 additive into the dispersion medium of these lubricants is shown to improve the tribotechnical properties, reducing wear by 50–55% compared to the base grease, and increases the colloidal stability and drop** temperature. Dissolved in the lubricating medium, oxygen, which is spent on changing the structure of phosphorus molybdate ions, was found to contribute to wear reduction. Increasing loads and short-term rising of temperature in the friction unit, which cause an increase of anion polymerization of linear forms of phosphomolybdates, make a certain contribution. The practical efficiency of grease lubricants with the studied additive for friction units of railway transport is noted.
