Abstract
The MultiPurpose Detector (MPD) is constructed to study strongly interacting matter at the NICA (Nuclotron-based Ion Collider fAcility) accelerator complex. We present the main NICA physics goals and the concept of the MPD detector with an emphasis to the detector performance for the measurements of hadron observables (yields and ratios) as well as reconstruction of (hyper)nuclei.
