Mean-field theory about the critical size in ferroelectricity

Abstract

The problem of critical size in ferroelectric crystals and films is considered within the mean-field theory. It is shown that, when the boundary conditions are correctly chosen, the critical size can be either very small or even absent; i.e., ferroelectricity can exist in one unit cell.
