Abstract
Five consecutive ichthyoplankton surveys were conducted during the spawning season of the walleye pollock Gadus chalcogrammus, in April and May 2019, at a spawning ground off the western coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. Daily walleye pollock egg production was estimated for each survey based on the number of spawned eggs recorded. The total egg production and mortality rate during embryogenesis were calculated for the spawning season. The highest mortality rates were observed at egg stages I and III. The total mortality was 86.8% of the number of spawned eggs. The new results we obtained allow substantial improvement of quality of abundance estimates for the walleye pollock spawning stock in the Sea of Okhotsk.
