Abstract
A Polarization model of the bactericidal activity of the biopolymer chitosan has been suggested. It is based on the thermodynamics of penetration of chitosan into a bacterial cell under the assumption of its molecular structure and the kinetics of the death of bacteria. The necessary conditions of the two mechanisms of the bactericidal activity of chitosan have been obtained from estimation of the change in free energy during penetration of chitosan into the membrane.
