Abstract

Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) is a critical mediator of stress responses and the involvement of CRH in the suppression of reproductive events has been reported in mammals. Here, we have cloned cDNAs encoding CRH family peptides, CRH and urotensin I (UI), from the eel brain, and investigated their gene expression and localization. The eel CRH and UI genes were expressed in the dorsal and ventral subdivisions of the paraventricular region, respectively. The localization of CRH transcripts in the captive eel was different from that in the stressed rainbow trout.
