Determining biomass from differential total organic carbon

  • Published:
Biotechnology Techniques

Abstract

A simple procedure for the determination of biomass concentration based on total organic carbon (TOC) is presented. The method uses a total of 2mL of sample, and requires less than an hour to perform. The technique is accurate to 0.009g/L biomass. Samples can be refrigerated at 4°C without affecting readings. Other characteristics are well within those of currently accepted methods of biomass determination.
