Abstract

Carcinosarcoma of female genital tract (FGT) (previously called malignant mixed müllerian tumour) is a rare and aggressive gynecological cancer. Their incidence is around 1–2% of all malignancies of FGT. The study was conducted in a tertiary care cancer centre in India for duration of 2 years. 10 cases of mixed epithelial and mesenchymal neoplasms of FGT were diagnosed during this period. 7 were diagnosed as carcinosarcoma and remaining 3 were mullerian adenosarcomas. All patients presented with postmenopausal vaginal bleeding. They underwent panhysetrectomy with omentectomy and bilateral pelvic lymph node dissection. Paraaortic lymph nodes were dissected in two cases with late clinical stage. 6 cases presented with uterine body growth, 2 involved uterus and cervix both, one case showed cervical growth and one presented with ovarian mass. All cases showed uneventful follow up for 6 months except one which was lost to follow up post-surgery. Surgical staging and chemotherapy are the main stay of treatment; however, survival rates are poor . So improvement in early detection and optimal therapy is to be done.
