As Editor-in-Chief, on behalf of the editorial team, I would like to celebrate the success of Biomedical Engineering Letters over the past decade. Biomedical Engineering Letters is an interdisciplinary, international journal dedicated to the publication of original investigations concerned with major aspects of biomedical engineering and applied biophysics. The journal dates back to 2011 when the first issue was published. Since that year, 10 issues have been successfully published thanks to the extraordinary efforts of all editorial team members and strong support from the leadership of the Korean Society of Medical and Biological Engineering.

The journal is progressively evolving to occupy a unique position in the global community of biomedical engineering journals by publishing innovative original articles in biomedical engineering and applied biophysics. In addition, diverse topical collections have been published in the journal by a group of dedicating Guest Editors who brought best experts in the fields, providing reviews on trendy topics. In 2021, we are planning special issues on three emerging topics including wearable and implantable biomedical sensors and nanomedicine.

The journal is currently indexed in ESCI (ENGINEERING, BIOMEDICAL | MOLECULAR BIOLOGY & GENETICS), SCOPUS, PubMedCentral, and many other services. Total citation number of the journal has been steadily increasing over the last few years (Fig. 1). According to the data from Web of Science, the journal’s preliminary Impact Factor for 2019 is 2.333 (Fig. 2). Considering the journal’s current category in ESCI, we expect the journal to sit in the bottom of Q2 in Biomedical Engineering when it gets indexed in SCIE. We hope to be indexed on SCIE soon to increase international visibility of the journal.

The major change in the journal, which is in effect from 2011, is the strict length limit of Original Articles. We have made this decision to improve the readability of the published papers and accelerate the peer-review process. Biomedical Engineering Letters’ new author guidelines require no more than 6,000 words in the Original Article. This word limit includes all data: title page, abstract, text, disclosure, acknowledgments, key points, references, figure legends, and tables. A maximum of 8 figures (maximum of 16 parts in total with no more than 4 parts per figure preferred), 8 tables, and 60 references is allowed. However, there are no restrictions on the publication of supplemental materials to provide methodological details.

The editorial team of Biomedical Engineering Letters will be dedicated to achieving another decade of success for our journal. Our top priority is to increase the international recognition of Biomedical Engineering Letters and to make it the first choice for publishing outstanding, high-impact manuscripts in all aspects of biomedical engineering. To achieve the goals, we will focus on identifying and publishing the best original articles in the fields and promoting new and emerging themes. We will also do our best to ensure a rapid and transparent review process.
