Samenvatting

Achtergrond. Een compartimentsyndroom van de hand na een trauma is een zeldzaam fenomeen.

Casus. Wij beschrijven de casus van een 13-jarig meisje dat een compartimentsyndroom van de hand ontwikkelde na het doormaken van crushletsel. De behandeling bestond uit fasciotomie van alle tien de loges van de hand. Na circa 6 weken bleek de functie van de hand nagenoeg volledig te zijn hersteld.

Conclusie. Het is van essentieel belang het optreden van het compartimentsyndroom tijdig te diagnosticeren. Indien niet vroegtijdig herkend en adequaat behandeld, kan deze aandoening resulteren in invaliderende afwijkingen.

Abstract

Background. The occurrence of compartment syndrome of the hand is rare.

Case description. Here we present the case of a 13-yearold girl who experienced a crush injury to the right hand resulting in the occurrence of a compartment syndrome. She was treated by a fasciotomy of the ten compartments of the hand. Approximately six weeks after the operation the function of the hand recovered almost completely.

Conclusion. Timely diagnosis of compartment syndrome of the hand is very essential. If not detected early and treated adequately, the condition can result in debilitating disorders.
