Samenvatting

Fracturen van een of meerdere tenen komen regelmatig voor. Ze behoren tot de meest gediagnosticeerde fracturen van de onderste extremiteit in de huisartsenpraktijk. De incidentie varieert van 14 tot 40 patiënten per 10.000 mensen per jaar, met een verhouding man:vrouw van 1,6:1. Fracturen van digiti 2-5 komen vier keer meer voor dan die van de grote teen. Het vallen van een voorwerp op de tenen, stoten of een sport- of verkeersletsel zijn meestal de oorzaak van het letsel. In de meeste gevallen kan de huisarts de fractuur behandelen.
