Method for Calculating the Settlement of Circular Pile Foundations of a Reservoir

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Aims and scope

The article presents a method for calculating the settlement of circular pile foundations of reservoirs on clay soils. The method provides for a separate calculation of the settlement of the central part of the reservoir (bottom settlement) and a reinforced concrete circular grillage with one, two, or three rows of piles (settlement of the ring foundation). The reservoir bottom settlement calculation is based on the method of M. I. Gorbunov–Posadov for a flexible round stamp on a linearly deformable base. When calculating the settlement of the ring foundation, the method of A. A. Bartolomey was used for girder pile foundations. The work considers additional settlements of the bottom and foundation of the ring, caused by repeated loading and unloading of the reservoir base.
