Abstract
In a harmonic generation process the temporal profile of the up-converted pulse undergoes significative changes depending on the input profile and crystal length. A simple theoretical treatment and the corresponding physical view are presented. The matter and the properties of two sha** systems are investigated in view of producing rectangular up-converted pulses, as required by laser driven radio-frequency electron sources.
