Summary
We discuss the role of multiple parton scattering subprocesses in the context of large-calorimeter experiments on large-p T jet production in hadronic collisions. We find that these processes can give appreciable effects even at the largest presently observed transverse energies.

About this point one can notice an important qualitative difference in the present available large-p T calorimeter data at √s=√600 GeV (6,7) and √s=63 GeV (7). In the first case, comparing dσ/dΣ|p T| observed with a calorimeterC 1: Δϑ=π/2, Δϕ=2π, and with a calorimeterC 2: Δϑ=π/2, Δϕ=π/2 (in the c.m.s.), one will see that
while in the latter case
Unfortunately ISR data (7) are available only in a much limited range ofx T and, therefore, the above observation can be taken only as an indication, rather than an evidence, of important scale-breaking contributions still effective in the regime of the experiment in ref. (6).
