Abstract

A collaborative programme enables coastal problems in the Cantabrian rías of NW Spain to be compared with those of the firths of the Scottish east coast. Engineers and scientists have studied the problems of the two coastal areas and commenced joint research into problems of coastal stability, with a view to improving protection techniques currently used in the two regions.

Résumé

Un programme de collaboration a permis une étude des problèmes côtiers des «rías» de Cantabria (Espagne) et des «firths» du littoral oriental d’Ecosse. Plusieurs ingénieurs et scientifiques ont examiné ces problèmes dans les deux pays et ont commencé à faíre des recherches en commun sur la stabilité de la côte en vue d’améliorer les méthodes de défense du littoral généralement utilisées dans les deux régions.
