Summary

168 patients underwent a non prosthetic surgical procedure for established hip arthrosis. Both sides were operated on in 22 patients. Architectural defects of the hip were more common in female hips (102 cases) which were operated on at an earlier age (mean age: 43) than male hips (mean age: 47). Pain was the main symptom. There was no severe stiffness, and 50% of the patients needed aid for walking. Clinical features correlate with Xray aspects, with some exceptions. Varisation osteotomy performed in 48% of the cases is the most common technique. The group of Bombelli's combined osteotomy is not included in the general statistics for technical reasons.
