Conclusions
The material VIO-20N based on fused quartz does not react with chrome-nickel alloys and is not wetted by their melts. Tests carried out with floating bowls of this material demonstrated the efficient action of flat-bottomed batchers in the casting of chrome-nickel alloys.
The fact that the metal can be poured without the batching device being preheated if it is made of VIO-20N makes it possible to recommend this material for the production of devices for use in closed chambers containing an inert gas which protects the metal from afteroxidation.
